Exterior Painting
Nine months of rain, wind off the Sound, and temperature swings that stress every coat you put on a wall. Rainwood Construction handles exterior painting for homes and commercial buildings across Snohomish and King County — prep included, not extra.

What the PNW Does to Exterior Paint
Exterior paint in Western Washington fails faster than the can suggests. The problem isn’t rain alone — it’s the cycle. Wet season saturates wood fiber and raises the grain. Dry summers bake and contract it. Do that 10 times and even a well-applied coat starts to crack at the edges and delaminate from trim joints.
Cedar is the hardest surface to keep. It oils naturally, which is good for the wood — bad for paint adhesion. A cedar house that hasn’t been recoated in 6–8 years needs a full wash to remove mildew and oxidation, scraping at every loose edge, and a shellac-based or stain-blocking primer before any topcoat goes on. Skip the primer and you’re re-doing the job in 18 months.
Fiber cement is more forgiving, but it’s not maintenance-free. The factory finish on HardiePlank is good — 15-year warranty on the coating — but field cuts and trim need to be primed on-site before install. A lot of crews skip that. Then moisture wicks into the raw edge and the paint fails from the end grain outward.
What Exterior Painting Costs in the Greater Seattle Area
A standard two-story house runs $4,000–$8,500 for a full exterior repaint. What moves that number: siding type, current paint condition, story count, and how much trim you have. A simple ranch with vinyl siding in decent shape is on the lower end. A two-story cedar house with 8 years of missed recoating, detailed trim, and a covered porch — that’s a different scope.
The prep is where most low bids fall apart. A quote that skips washing, scraping, and priming isn’t cheaper — it’s incomplete. That work gets added as a change order, or it doesn’t get done and the paint fails in two years. Every Rainwood Construction exterior estimate is done on site: we assess adhesion, check for soft wood at windows and bottom courses, and price the prep into the original quote.
OUR FLOORING SERVICES
Full exterior painting scope for residential and light commercial projects across Snohomish and King County.
Full Exterior Repaints
Complete repaint of all siding, trim, fascia, soffits, and doors. Prep-to-finish scope. Cedar, fiber cement, vinyl, engineered wood — each gets the right primer and product for the surface and exposure.
New Construction Finishes
Back-prime before install, field-prime cut edges, two finish coats to spec. New construction moves fast — we coordinate with the build schedule.
Trim, Fascia & Soffit Painting
Fascia on north and west-facing elevations deteriorates fastest. Spot repaint when the siding is still solid, full repaint when the trim is running ahead of the siding cycle.
Deck & Fence Staining
Solid stain on decks — it fails more gracefully than paint and recoats without full strip. Semi-transparent where the wood grain is worth showing.
Garage Doors & Exterior Doors
Sprayed finish for a smooth result. Bonding primer on fiberglass doors, proper prep on steel to prevent rust bleed.

WHY CHOOSE RAINWOOD CONSTRUCTION?
Prep is the job. The painting part is fast — a day or two on most houses. Getting the surface right first takes longer, and it’s where the result is actually determined.
Every exterior estimate starts with an on-site surface assessment. Adhesion test on the existing coat, moisture probe at windows and bottom siding courses, fastener condition check. What we find determines the prep scope — and the prep scope goes into the quote before work starts.

- Shellac-based primer on cedar with adhesion issues

Years Experience
We had an excellent experience with them on our sunroom project. The quality of the work was outstanding, they were easy to work with, and they clearly explained each step, the schedule, and key decisions (with various options to help us understand cost) along the way. Communication was solid from start to finish, and the final result looks great. Highly recommend, they are my new go to recommendation when friends ask.
Rainwood construction completed 2 projects in my home recently. The first, which was to add a bar in my family room, which when completed fit so well that it looked like it always belonged there. It came out exactly how we wanted it and we love it. The second project was to completely remodel and modernize my 1955 original kitchen. The kitchen turned out fantastic! It’s light and bright with clean lines exactly how we had envisioned it. The team was polite, competent, hard working and always cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. They always made sure to ask how I wanted things done when there were options, making suggestions where needed and made sure I was happy with the completion of items along the way. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, plan to use them again in the future and have already recommended them!
Excellent work done ✅ I’m really impressed and looking forward working further. Recommend 👍
Anatoliy and his company, is great person to have a business with!!!
We just remodelled the entire main floor of our house; the scope included changing floors, installing new cabinets including a drop ceiling, added a custom entertainment wall, and fully upgraded the powder room, among other work such as electrical upgrades including an EV plug. We are overall very happy with the work that the team has done, satisfied with the cost, and definitely recommend them to others.
Toli did great work renovating our home and upstairs bathroom. It was a great change.

FAQ
On fiber cement with a quality acrylic, 10–12 years. On cedar, 5–7 years inland — less near the Sound or on north-facing walls with heavy shade. Those areas trap moisture and grow mildew faster than a south-facing wall in full sun.
Yes — it’s in the quote, not an add-on. Painting over dirty or chalky surfaces bonds you to a layer that’s already failing.
Paint builds a film on top of the wood. Stain penetrates into the fiber. Paint looks cleaner, but when it fails, it peels. Stain weathers gradually and recoats without stripping. On decks and rough-sawn cedar, stain usually makes more sense long-term.
Yes. Bring us a chip or a can with the formula on the lid. Sherwin-Williams can spectrophotometer-match existing finishes if you have a clean sample.
