Custom Carpentry

Stock cabinets come in standard sizes. Rooms don't. Rainwood's crew builds everything from kitchen cabinetry and fireplace surrounds to full built-in wall systems — each piece measured, designed, and fabricated for one specific location. No fillers, no workarounds, no "close enough."

Custom Carpentry Service Overview

Custom carpentry means building wood elements to fit a particular room rather than forcing it to accept whatever the factory produced. A stock bookcase leaves a three-inch gap. A prefab vanity won’t clear the plumbing stack. Generic crown moulding looks flat in a room with ten-foot ceilings. Custom finish carpentry solves all of these — not with clever hacks, but by starting from actual measurements and working outward. The value goes beyond looks. A window seat with drawers replaces a dead corner. A built-in credenza doubles as a room divider. Whether it’s residential or commercial, craftsmanship matched to real dimensions outperforms anything mass-produced.

 Pricing and Investment

We don’t publish pricing tables because the numbers would be misleading — a set of floating shelves and a full kitchen reface are both “custom carpentry,” but they’re not in the same ballpark. What moves the cost: wood species makes a big difference — paint-grade poplar runs a fraction of quartersawn walnut. Hardware tier matters. So does joinery complexity, number of finish coats, and whether the install means working around existing structures. Custom finishing carpentry on high-end pieces — hand-sanding, grain matching, protective coats — adds shop time but the result speaks for itself. Rainwood provides itemized estimates that separate materials, labor, and finishing. No vague allowances. What we quote is what we charge, barring client-requested changes mid-project.

OUR CUSTOM CARPENTRY SERVICES

We don't limit ourselves to one category. If it's wood and it goes in a building, we probably build it. Here's the scope of our custom carpentry services.

Custom Cabinets and Built-Ins

Face-frame and frameless cabinets built to the inch — drawer count, shelf spacing, organizers, all client-specified. Living room built-ins, media walls, bookshelves, banquette seating with storage. Custom closet systems with adjustable shelving and pull-out trays that turn a frustrating reach-in into something that works.

Custom Trim and Finish Carpentry

Crown mouldings sized for the room's proportions. Wainscoting that adds real dimension — not the peel-and-stick kind. Fireplace mantels from solid hardwood or reclaimed stock. Custom trim carpentry at this level takes longer than nailing up MDF from the lumberyard, and the gap in quality is immediately visible. Every mitre and cope hand-fitted.

Stairs and Railings

Treads, risers, newel posts, balusters, handrails — approached as a single integrated system rather than separate parts. Custom stairwork is one of the highest-impact carpentry upgrades in any home.

Custom Carpentry Furniture

Sometimes the piece a client needs doesn't exist in any catalog. A dining table for twelve that fits a narrow room. An entryway bench built around an awkward alcove. A live-edge conference table for a boardroom. We build custom carpentry furniture from scratch, matching species, grain, and finish to the space.

Commercial Fitouts

Office millwork, retail fixtures, hospitality interiors, dental office casework. Commercial clients come to us when the interior needs to communicate something about the brand, not just fill the room.

Rainwood also offers interior renovations. Contact us to discuss your project.

COMMON PROBLEMS WE FIX

These are the signs off-the-shelf products aren't cutting it for your space.

Stock cabinets leaving gaps and dead zones
Prefab pieces that won't clear plumbing or framing
Trim profiles that look flat or undersized for the room
Particleboard cabinetry showing wear after a few years
Awkward spaces no catalog product fits
Builder-grade finishes dragging down the rest of the room
Closets and storage that waste more space than they use

WHY CHOOSE RAINWOOD?

Most clients reach out after a frustrating experience with something prefabricated. When a piece fits its space, you stop losing square footage to gaps and bad layouts. Beyond fit, there’s durability — hardwood frames, dovetailed drawers, mortise-and-tenon joinery. Ten years in, the difference is obvious. Appraisers flag quality built-ins. Buyers notice during walkthroughs. One of the few improvements that consistently returns more than it costs.

  • Site visit and actual measurements before any design work
  • CAD drawings or full 3D renderings — client signs off before we cut
  • Shop fabrication for tolerances that on-site-only work can't match
  • Hardwood, dovetails, and proper joinery — not particleboard and staples
  • Final walkthrough: every door swing, drawer slide, and finish surface checked

We had an excellent experience with them on our sunroom project. The quality of the work was outstanding, they were easy to work with, and they clearly explained each step, the schedule, and key decisions (with various options to help us understand cost) along the way. Communication was solid from start to finish, and the final result looks great. Highly recommend, they are my new go to recommendation when friends ask.

Rainwood construction completed 2 projects in my home recently. The first, which was to add a bar in my family room, which when completed fit so well that it looked like it always belonged there. It came out exactly how we wanted it and we love it. The second project was to completely remodel and modernize my 1955 original kitchen. The kitchen turned out fantastic! It’s light and bright with clean lines exactly how we had envisioned it. The team was polite, competent, hard working and always cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. They always made sure to ask how I wanted things done when there were options, making suggestions where needed and made sure I was happy with the completion of items along the way. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, plan to use them again in the future and have already recommended them!

We just remodelled the entire main floor of our house; the scope included changing floors, installing new cabinets including a drop ceiling, added a custom entertainment wall, and fully upgraded the powder room, among other work such as electrical upgrades including an EV plug. We are overall very happy with the work that the team has done, satisfied with the cost, and definitely recommend them to others.

FAQ

Yes — we provide 3D renderings on most projects so you can review and adjust the design before we start building. It’s the fastest way to catch changes while they’re still free.
